Tucked away in an unassuming alleyway, Shelter Cat & Vegan Cafe NEU is a unique cat cafe where all the cats are rescues and the food is all vegan.
After you take off your shoes and wash your hands, you’ll step in and be greeted by cute rescue cats. There are two cat rooms: The first floor cat room is home to the more social and experienced cats who enjoy human interactions. Upstairs (careful of the steep staircase!), you'll find a space dedicated to newer cats who are a bit more timid and still adjusting to human company. While petting is discouraged in the upstairs area, you can still play with them with toys.
What makes this place even better is that they have a small eating area upstairs serving an all vegan menu. Despite not being a full-scale cafe, the food is surprisingly tasty. The eating area is right next to the upstairs cat room so you can eat while watching cute cats. But if you plan to eat here, arrive early because there are only 2 tables. Also keep in mind that they only serve food on Saturday, Sunday and Monday; On other days, only drinks are available.
The menu is relatively small with options like fried soy meat lunch plate, bolognese and soy burger steak plate. You can finish your meal with a brown syrup ice cream or a matcha latte with cat-shaped foam.
The entry price for the cat room is 1,500 yen for one hour. And if you choose to have food in addition, you can get a 300 yen discount for food.
